SEO stands for Search Engine
Optimization, and it refers to how well a website can be positioned in search
engine pages. Will your website, or even blog entry, show up on page 1, 2, 3,
or wherever.
Since it is based on keyword searches made by visitors to Google for example, then you should realize that at its’ very basic level, it is all about keywords placed in your website or blog.
Now, all search engines will have different algorithms, or calculations, on how they determine where a website or blog will show up on their pages; and they will have rules in place that make sure that those places that overuse keywords in an attempt to get a higher ranking will obviously hurt themselves. They might even risk not even getting placed at all.
With millions of websites and blogs that exist around the world, it can look like an overwhelming task to get placed on the first page of Google for example.
However, along with keywords, content on your site is most important. It should always be original, written by you, and if you do quote someone else, always give the author credit.
Keywords can be phrases like network marketing, make money online, and so on. You can use Google’s keyword tool to find out how many searches were made on any phrase or word to find out what the most popular ones were. Keep in mind that the most popular ones are those that companies pay for to get their websites to the top pages, and that can be expensive. Sponsored ads always show up at the top of the page, sometimes on the side, and also at the bottom.
But SEO primarily relates to getting placed on those pages without having to pay for it.
Wordpress is supposedly the best blogging system out there that helps with great SEO placements; however, you will still need original content and the use of keywords in your blog entries to have any kind of impact. But don’t overuse keywords or phrases in your entries; use them where appropriate and if they make sense. They can be used in your blog title, and within the article itself. You don't need to use a keyword in every sentence for example. Once or twice in the article should be OK. Focus more on the content that the article is about.
And the more articles or blog entries you can write, the better chance you have of getting ranked and attracting visitors to your blog.
It will take time for SEO to hopefully work in your favour, so just keep working at it.
